Things to Do

Bass Lake

We have listed some of the great activities Bass Lake and its surrounding areas have to offer! If you have any questions about the below activities, would like to learn about other activities, or would prefer somebody to help create a plan for your adventure, Hannah Witmer is our Bass Lake concierge and is here to help! Please reach out to Hannah at concierge@basslake.com to plan your adventures.

WATERSPORTS

The biggest attraction at Bass Lake is, of course, the water! Be sure to pack your towel, a beach chair, and sunscreen for your trip! Boat rentals are located on the shores of Bass Lake and offer a variety of equipment that will help you enjoy and explore the lake. From jet skis to pontoon boats to speed boats, kayaks, and paddle boards, there are plenty of options. While there are multiple rental locations (one on the north side and two on the south side of the lake), we recommend Bass Lake Boat Rentals which is the closest to the Pines Resort. They can be reached at (559) 642-3200.

HIKING

Multiple hiking trails around the lake offer varying difficulty levels and would be perfect for both daytime and evening hikes. We highly recommend venturing into Yosemite for some of the more iconic hikes (see below), but if you’re in the mood for something closer to the lake, consider the 3 mile loop to Angel Falls or the relaxing .5 mile Way of the Mono Trail. If you prefer to enjoy the outdoors from the comfort of your car, consider taking the Sierra Vista Scenic Byway.

HISTORIC ACTIVITIES

Explore the historic gold rush town of Mariposa for an afternoon! You’ll find plenty to keep you busy, with the Mariposa museum, a mining and mineral museum, and even a climbing museum. Take a ride through the woods on the Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad or try your luck with gold panning with a nearby adventure company. Be sure to bring an appetite for all the restaurants, wineries, and coffee shops.

RELAXING ACTIVITIES

Make sure to leave some room for relaxation. Grab a book and a cup of coffee and just enjoy the sounds of Bass Lake. Relax by the pool, play some tennis, go for a walk along the shore, meditate by the lake or visit an art gallery. Simply unplug, let your hair down and let time slow down.

Yosemite National Park

One of the things that drew us to Bass Lake is the easy access to Yosemite! Yosemite has been a special place for us - it's where Andrew proposed last April and where we spent Valentine's Day this year. Whether you've never been before or are a regular visitor, there are always new things to see in the park.

Please Note - This year, Yosemite National Park is requiring a park reservation to enter the park on weekends. If you are planning on spending either Saturday or Sunday in the park, we highly recommend purchasing a pass as soon as possible. They are available at recreation.gov under Yosemite National Park Peak Hour Plus Reservations. The pass is $2 per car and valid for 3 days after arrival date. If you are planning on staying in a lodge, campsite, or cabin inside Yosemite park, you will not need a peak hour reservation.

Highlights: Make sure to stop for a picture at the jaw-dropping Tunnel View. Drive/walk through Yosemite Valley for unforgettable views of El Capitan, Half Dome, and iconic waterfalls. Take a stroll to Lower Yosemite Falls. For a challenging hike, try the Mist Trail to get to Vernal and Nevada Falls and take the John Muir Trail down (rain jacket/poncho highly recommended!).
